BROOKLYN AND FINANCIAL DISTRICT TRIP REACTION PAPER ASSIGNMENT

You will have an opportunity to evaluate your Urban Studies field trip into “The Big Apple”.   In your well-written two or three page paper please be sure to make reference to all of the following below:

BE SURE TO TYPE AND DOUBLE SPACE YOUR ESSAY!!

1.  Compare Atlantic Terminal  station to  Penn Station.  (size, facilities, crowds, type of people, general impressions.)

2.  Describe the Middle Eastern District and Brooklyn Heights as examples of New York City neighborhoods.  Compare them to neighborhoods visited in Manhattan on the previous fieldtrip.

3.  Describe your walk across the “beautiful and majestic” Brooklyn Bridge.  Is it a practical way to get to work?  What types of people did you encounter on your walk?  What was the traffic like?  What other landmarks were you able to see from the bridge?

4.  What was your impression of City Hall?

5.  Describe the South Street Complex.  Mention (3) specific places/stores you visited in this area. (you do not have to write about this)

6.  Where did you have lunch?  How were the prices?  Was the place crowded?  If so, were they mostly business people or tourists?

7.  Describe your walk through the Financial District.  Discuss your observations about the people, the pace, the buildings, etc.  How does this area differ from the areas that we visited on our last two trips?  Did you notice any remnants of the early Dutch settlers?

8.  Describe your observations of Federal Hall, Fraunces Tavern, Trinity Church, Bowling Green, and Saint Paul’s Chapel.  What did you find most interesting there?

9. Describe you experience at the Ground Zero Memorial and museum.  Was it what your expected?

10.  How was the Subway ride this time?  Are you feeling more confident?

11.  Finally, explain at least ONE thing you learned by going on this field trip. (other than Mrs. Hart walked very quickly over the Brooklyn Bridge!)
