Proposed Urban Studies Field Trips

 

Trip 1-Thursday, October 1, 2015

Central Park/Cathedral of Saint John the Divine

 

Group will explore Central Park including visits to the Zoo and its 4D IMAX Theater, Get ready to ride the carousel!  Walk past Tavern on the Green, and Strawberry Fields.  You will see too many sites in CP to mention.  Lunch will be at the Boathouse after which we will proceed to the largest cathedral in the world, the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine

 

Trip 2-Thursday, October 29, 2015

The People:  Neighborhoods

 

Itinerary will include a subway ride to Delancey Street where we will begin a walking tour of the Lower East Side.  The group will eat lunch in either Chinatown or Little Italy.  Then on to artsy SoHo, Greenwich Village-pit shop at Washington Square Park.  Did I mention donuts?  Bring your appetite…

Brooklyn Bridge and Financial District

 

Travel to Flatbush Avenue LIRR Station.  Walk through the Antique District, Middle Eastern District, and Brooklyn Heights.  Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, past City Hall to the South Street Seaport.  Walk through the Financial District to Wall Street.  Visit Federal Hall, Trinity Church, Ground Zero, The Broadway Bull, and St. Paul’s Chapel.  Weather permitting, a saunter through Battery Park.

 

Trip 4-Thursday, December 15th, 2015

Holiday Time in Midtown

 

A visit to Grand Central Station and NYC Public Library.  Maybe ice skating at Bryant Park and some last minute holiday shopping. Lunch break at Times Square.  Walking tour of Fifth Avenue with visits to Rockefeller Center, Trump Tower, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, FAO Schwartz, Gucci, Tiffany, Cartier, etc.  A tour of “The Top of the Rock” observation deck atop the RCA building will be enjoyed.  Maybe a glimpse of the Rockettes…wish for snow!  I will be collecting permission slips and payment by the end of September in order to hold date.
