The NYT partnered with AOL to create a 50 year retrospective of India & Pakistan’s independence.  You can view original articles from 1947 & 1948, including the NY Times front page from August 15, 1947, as well as archived photos from 1930-1997.

India’s independence and the Muslim-Hindu conflict have been addressed many times.  In addition to programs, their website also has maps, timelines & background information on the region.

South Asia is home to numerous religions including Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism.  Beliefnet.com has information on the background & beliefs on each of these religions.
