The Internet is often unreliable. When using the Internet for research always consider the following;

 

I. Authority

Who is the author of the site?

Does the author list his or her occupation, years of experience, or education?

Is there an address or email address given?

 

II. URL

What type of site is it?           .org- a group or organization

.com-commercial site             .mil- military site

.edu-an academic site             .net- a network

.gov-a government site

 

III. Purpose

How objective will it be?

To amuse or entertain you    To sell you a product or service

To inform                            To convince you of a point of view

 

IV.  Currency

Is it being updated to reflect current news and trends?

What is the date of creation?

Are links up to date?

 

V.  Audience

Who is the site written for?

College students? Middle School students?
